12VPN is a great VPN service. It’s acutally the first VPN service that really worked for me in China (I failed with about 2 other ones back in 2009) For a newbie to the whole VPN scene, they make choosing a VPN very simple – they only have two choices: US servers or World Servers. Both packages are available for a wide variety of operating systems.
The difference between the US only and World versions of the personal VPN is the number of server locations, and the number of countries available. *New: 12VPN now offers a $39 Lite Package
The World VPN service would be useful if you’re going to be using services from these countries. Things like the BBC iPlayer can be accessed by signing into a server in the UK. There are also many gaming sites that are limited to Japanese IP addresses.
Some of the most popular TV streaming services are in the USA, along with a lot of US IP-required websites. Also, many people are happy getting the cheaper service because they just want to have more privacy and security online, and don’t care what country its from.
Excellent Customer Service
Customer service gets 10 stars. While they don’t have live chat available, they are very quick with their email responses, and the friendliest out of any VPN customer service team I’ve ever dealt with. I have reviewed quite a few VPN services for Mr. VPN, and 12VPN is the best, by far.
Some may not be impressed by 12VPNs simple website design, or no frills attitude. However, I find it refreshing that they don’t have TONS of servers in every country imaginable. That may be useful for some people, but for me, I was happy paying just $80 per year for something that works.
Owning and running a VPN website, I could have chosen any VPN service while in China (remember, China is famous for the “Great Firewall”. I used 12VPN for 3 years while living in China and never switched to a different service.
Support for More Devices
Though above I listed your standard Apple, Windows, and Google products, 12VPN supports many more devices. They have custom VPNs for people in China, they and have VPNs for Nokia phones. I got mixed reports about Windows Phone 7 and Blackberry Playbook – some staff telling me they could, some telling me they couldn’t. It may have been an issue of miscommunication or timing, but if you are looking for a VPN that you have failed to find support for at other VPN services, 12VPN could possibly have a solution for you. Ask them.
