How To Protect Your Online Privacy & Security At Starbucks

After I moved recently, my house did not have internet for about two weeks. Considering that I work online, I was starving for internet. Usually I hate working, but for some reason, as soon as the ability to work was taken from me, I had the urge to sit down and write an article. Hm, that's funny.

So I went to the local Starbucks (the one closes to me, because of course there's more than one on each block) and sat down to get some work done.

But I suddenly became aware of how vulnerable I was to attack.

All this studying I've done about how VPNs protect our privacy, and how they keep us safe in public wifi areas, and here I was accessing the internet in a public place, without my VPN connected!

I was logging into bank accounts, checking email, sending private messages to affiliate managers, and logging into all my websites. Honestly, if someone had been spying on me while I sat there, they would have the “keys to the castle.”

So why wasn't I using my VPN?

The truth is, I was being lazy. Being an affiliate of VPN services, I have several lifetime VPN accounts from a variety of services. Not all the services are great, but they're there.

Some of the better services haven't give me lifetime access, but to be honest, the price of protecting your privacy online is ridiculously low.

I just paid my motorcycle insurance for 2014-2015. It was $340 dollars. I just paid my home insurance for the same time period: $577. I pay $220 for medical insurance each month. The ADT home security guy wants $47 per month.

Why would I not pay $10 or less per month to secure my internet connection in public areas?

I think the reason behind it is that so far, I have not had any privacy or security issues when using the internet at Starbucks.

Now that I have internet at home, the time has passed, and I tell myself that I will use a VPN next time. But will I? I guess this is the case of do as I say, not what I do. I recommend anyone that uses public internet on a regular basis invest in a VPN service like VyprVPN. Their company is focused on brining privacy and security to your laptop, computer, smartphone, tablet, and other internet-connecting devices.

It works like any software application on your computer or mobile device. Download, install, and connect. Then you are protected with 256-bit SSL encryption that makes YOUR connection private. This keeps you save from identity thieves and other security breaches that are normally possible with shared internet connections.

My current VPN Recommendation is HideMyAss! It's inexpensive, secure, and trustworthy, and they have one of the best mobile apps in the industry.
