Hulu Proxy? Sorry Dude!
Hulu is accessible from outside the USA through software to change your IP. When people think of changing your IP, both proxies and VPNs usually come to mind.
So are there proxies and VPNs that work with Hulu?
Actually, Hulu is not alone in restricting content outside the USA. Most TV streaming services do this. Hulu is different in that there seems to be active systems in place to try to prevent you from using IP changing programs to access it.
Let me give you an example:
When I lived in China I could sign into a VPN with a US IP. Sign into my Netflix account, disconnect from the VPN, and continue watching Netflix as normal.
The same was not true for Hulu.
I could forget to turn on my VPN, get blocked from HBO, sign into my VPN, and then sign into HBO with no problem.
I can’t say the same for Hulu.
Actually, I had to make sure my browser cache and Hulu cookies were completely clear, with no traces of previous Hulu access BEFORE signing into the VPN, and then I had to stay connected the whole time. If the VPN lost connection, Hulu stopped streaming.
The reason I’m telling you all this is to prove just how sensitive the Hulu website is to foreign IP addresses. Proxies simply don’t cut it. Most proxies won’t work with any TV streaming sites (though, some do), but they definitely won’t work for streaming Hulu.
That doesn’t mean that you can’t change your IP and get Hulu in other countries. But it does mean that you need a VPN service, not a proxy. And you need a VPN service that’s reliable and won’t drop your connection. I would also suggest one that allows you to change your IP quickly/easily because Hulu may blog known ‘shared IP services’.
