Steps to Setup VPN in Mac OS:

 

Note: It is assumed you already have a Wi-Fi Internet Connection set in your Mac OS before proceeding with the steps. If not, set up a Wi-Fi Internet connection before proceeding. Also, you need to have Admin privileges to set up PPTP VPN connection in Mac OS.

  • Click on the Apple logo on the upper corner of the screen
  • Go to “System Preferences” and click on it.
  • Click on Network icon
  • A Network screen pops up, locate and click on “+” icon in the lower left hand corner of the screen
  • A new Network screen will pop up
  • Under the Interface drop down list, select VPN
  • Under the VPN Type drop down list select PPTP.
  • In the Service field, you can enter any name; it will be the name of your VPN connection.
  • Click on Create.
  • In the next window, enter the Server address and your Username (Note: These details are provided by your VPN service provider or you’re Network Administrator)
  • Tick the box, Show VPN status in menu bar
  • Click on Authentication settings button
  • Click on Password radio button, enter your password for VPN and then click on OK.
  • Click on Apply. (Your VPN connection is now created and ready for use)

 

Follow the steps given below to connect to Internet using your VPN connection.

  • Click on the Apple logo on the upper corner of the screen
  • Go to System Preferences and click on it.
  • Click on Network icon
  • A Network screen pops up; your VPN connection will be listed in the Network window
  • Select your VPN connection and click on Connect.
