Steps to setup VPN in Windows 7:
Note: It is assumed you already have a Wi-Fi Internet Connection set in Windows 7 before proceeding with the steps. If not, set up a Wi-Fi Internet connection before proceeding.
- On the Taskbar, click on the button with Windows logo
- Click on Control Panel
- Open “Network and Sharing Center” from Control Panel window
- Select “Set up a new connection or network”
- In the next window, click on “Connect to a workplace”
- In the next window, click on “Use my Internet Connection (VPN)”.
- In the next window, Enter IP address and Destination name (Note: you will get the IP address from your VPN Service provider, you can enter any name as Destination Name; it is the name of your VPN connection
- Tick the box labeled “Don’t connect now; just set it up so I can use it later”, click on Next
- In the next screen, enter your Username and Password and click on Create
- Again, click on Start menu (button with Windows logo)
- Click on Control Panel
- Open “Network and Sharing Center” from Control Panel window
- Click on “Connect to a network”
- Click on the VPN connection you just created ( A login window for VPN connection pops up)
- Click on Properties
- In the window that pops up, click on Security tab
- In Type of VPN, select Point to Point Tunneling Protocol (PPTP)
- Click on Ok.
