Steps to setup VPN in Windows 7:

Note: It is assumed you already have a Wi-Fi Internet Connection set in Windows 7 before proceeding with the steps. If not, set up a Wi-Fi Internet connection before proceeding.

  • On the Taskbar, click on the button with Windows logo
  • Click on Control Panel
  • Open “Network and Sharing Center” from Control Panel window
  • Select “Set up a new connection or network”
  • In the next window, click on “Connect to a workplace”
  • In the next window, click on “Use my Internet Connection (VPN)”.
  • In the next window, Enter IP address and Destination name (Note: you will get the IP address from your VPN Service provider, you can enter any name as Destination Name; it is the name of your VPN connection
  • Tick the box labeled “Don’t connect now; just set it up so I can use it later”, click on Next
  • In the next screen, enter your Username and Password and click on Create
  • Again, click on Start menu (button with Windows logo)
  • Click on Control Panel
  • Open “Network and Sharing Center” from Control Panel window
  • Click on “Connect to a network”
  • Click on the VPN connection you just created ( A login window for VPN connection pops up)
  • Click on Properties
  • In the window that pops up, click on Security tab
  • In Type of VPN, select Point to Point Tunneling Protocol (PPTP)
  • Click on Ok.
