VyprVPN Has also made serious improvements to the installation process, as well as complete the “VyprVPN App”, which makes signing into the VPN and switching servers faster and easier than before. I have not updated the review to reflect these points (Due to laziness). But please keep these two points in mind.
After writing so many VPN reviews in the past couple days, I’m a bit burned out. But VyprVPN is not something I can just leave out, because it’s a great VPN service. If I had to my favorite VPN services, it would definitely be in the top three.
VPN review sites often can work out free trials with most VPN services, I was able to try out VyprVPN for a while so I could give it a proper review. I don’t mean to brag, but ALL of the VPN reviews here at Mr. VPN have been tried by someone on staff, and all the reviews are honest – not just trying to make a buck off of you. Take a look at a lot of the other VPN sites around and you’ll notice a lot of vague and extremely positive reviews. It’s obvious that they’re just sites set up to get commissions and make some cash. This is NOT what Mr. VPN is about.
With my first go at VyprVPN, I wasn’t impressed. It was difficult to set up, it was slow as heck, and I didn’t have time to research what had gone wrong. I put it on my list of “bad” VPNs, and forgot about it. Fast forward a few months, and I finally got around to writing a review for it. Within a day I was contacted by someone from the VyprVPN staff asking what happened, and if they could help me fix it.
Score for VyprVPN!
To put this in perspective, I had a similar issue with iVPN. This is the email I sent their support team.
I recently downloaded and started using iVPN’s OpenVPN. When I use the VPN I have noticed a significant drop in Internet speed. I don’t know what the issue may be. My OS is Win XP SP3, I’m located in China,I’ve used UK/US/Netherlands IP (single hop as well as double hop). Many sites time out or load very, very slowly.
And this is the response I got.
I have no idea why you have had this experience with our service. For the last week, not one of our servers has even come close to 20% of its bandwidth capacity and we are using only tier one bandwidth providers. Like I said, we pride ourselves on the speed of our service and the majority of our customers agree that our service is the fastest they have used.
Very polite, and very informative, but it wasn’t very helpful. There was no request to see VPN logs, and no suggestions of things that may have gone wrong. It was kind of like, “Sorry dude, you’re out of luck”.
Which is why it’s important to have a VPN service that’s going to help you get the most out of your VPN. Computers are crazy, and things go wrong. Especially with VPN services, which have customers all over the world, using different operating systems, doing different things online, there’s bound to be some issue, somewhere. Having a friendly and helpful support team is important.

So the second time around, after reinstalling VyprVPN, I was shocked at the speed difference. I don’t know what went wrong the first time, but in comparison to some other VPN services I was using at the time, I was now able to stream YouTube videos without waiting for buffering. Sites were opening almost instantly, and downloads were going smoothly. I can only say good things about the speed of VyprVPN.
The price is a bit of an issue with VyprVPN, and for a PPTP account which will cost you $5-$7 USD with other services, you’re going to pay $15 USD. For an upgrade to OpenVPN (with PPTP and L2TP included), you’ll pay $20. It’s a bit pricey, but here’s why.
VyprVPN is clearly a service dedicated to online privacy. It seems like a lot of VPN services out there are mostly about unblocking sites like Facebook and other entertainment themed sites, and their services don’t pay much attention to informing their customers about the dangers that a proper VPN can protect you from. Malicious hacker types, packet sniffers, and other types of identity thieves have an entire arsenal of tools to steal your info, and VyprVPN has what you need to fight back.
Golden Frog (company that owns VyprVPN) owns all their own servers, which means that you IP data isn’t going anywhere it shouldn’t. They don’t keep server logs, so your data won’t be available for anyone snooping around. There’s even an option to upgrade with a NAT Firewall to further protect your information from outsiders.
The other reason you’ll pay a bit extra with VyprVPN is because of their “no commitment” policy. Sure, lots of services have cheaper “monthly” options, but what they don’t tell you is that you’ve got to commit to a year of VPN service to get those prices. While a VPN service may advertise that you’ll pay only six dollars a month, you’ve got to commit to a year, which means you’ll pay between $70 and $80 USD. VyprVPN’s month by month payment plan means you can cancel any time – it’s a great option for someone traveling for a couple weeks.
One last thing I’d like to mention about VyprVPN is that their site is set up so that you “get in, and get out”. There are no complicated payment plans, no massive grid of options to sort through. For newbies who don’t want to do weeks of research before purchasing a VPN service, this is a great way to do it. With just two equally good options available, it’s easy to make a choice and just get started.
